SUMMARY:Training Workshop on Green Chemistry Education
DESCRIPTION:In the light of increasing pressures placed on the planet
by humanity, the need to develop a cadre of science professionals who
are dedicated to developing and implementing green chemistry practices
is more important than ever before. This Workshop is for educators an
d scientists in the chemical and life sciences who strongly believe in
the incorporation and integration of the fundamentals of Green Chemis
try in the education and the laboratory.\nThis one-day workshop will b
e a combination of lectures, discussion, and demonstration of Green Ch
emistry laboratory experiments. The speakers in the workshop will pres
ent the latest trends in the field of Green Chemistry based on their o
wn experiences in either industry or academia.\nDuring the lecture ses
sions, speakers will discuss the adoption of Green experiments and lec
ture materials, address the challenges and opportunities in Green Chem
istry education and the need for incorporating Green Chemistry in educ
ation. They will provide strategies for designing, adapting and incorp
orating new green experiments. Ample time will be made available for p
articipants to discuss their own plans for adopting Green Chemistry wi
th the speakers and fellow participants.\nEducational material used in
teaching the green chemistry and laboratory experiments will be distr
ibuted during the workshop, including our recently published monograph
, \"Green Chemistry Experiments,” published by Green Chemistry Netwo
rk Centre, ISBN: 81-904152-5-5.\nThe participants will be offered memb
ership of Green Chemistry Network for which they need to apply on the
prescribed format.\n\nAll expenses, including tea and lunch, for the p
articipants during the day-long workshop will be provided by the organ
izers. However, a nominal fee of Rs.500 will be charged towards regist
ration from participants. Apart from this, participants are expected t
o cover their own travel and lodging expenses.\nIn case of sufficient
entries, we will add a Poster Session on Green Chemistry Education dur
ing the workshop. If you have designed any green chemistry experiment
and are interested in presenting your work, please contact us.\nTo app
ly, please send a letter of interest along with CV to the Organizing S
ecretary of the workshop. Applications for participation must be recei
ved by October 15, 2010.\n\nFor more information visit http://cmetim.n
